BBC Sherlock part 2
May. 20th, 2026 09:47 pmkingstokenAlrighty, I finished season 2 of BBC's Sherlock and I'm still really enjoying it. I have some mixed feelings about the Irene Alder episode, I wasn't really a fan of the ending. I do love that she used Sherlock to get to Mycroft, but I didn't love the villain woman undid by love for a man thing. Also, her damsel-in-distress ending was disappointing, like no way, Irene is no one's damsel, Anyways, those issues aside, it was a fun ride.
The Hound episode was fun, it didn't go where I expected it, and it felt like a fun little interlude between the two juggernaut episodes.
Now, Reichenbach, the fans must have gone feral for this back in 2012. Moriarty was very good in this. I love his level of machinations.
Funny thing, if you haven't watched the Rathbone films you might not see it, but there were a couple of references to those films: Moriarty trying to steal the crown jewels, him going to Baker St and stepping on the squeaky stair as Sherlock plays the violin, they're definite nods, and I only got them because I watched the Rathbone films recently.
The conversation between Sherlock and John at the end, and the graveside visit, was heartbreaking, poor John. To know you're on the phone with someone and to think you're watching them take their own life, that would screw him up way more than he already was.
I really wish there had been a scene between Sherlock and Mycroft in this episode, I really do. It really felt like it was missing in this episode, and god, John never told Sherlock that Mycroft said he was sorry! Sad sigh.
Anyways, I think I'll take a bit of break before starting season 3, and yes I have been warned repeatedly that season 3 is not good and season 4 sucks, so I am prepared for that.
On the fandom side of things I've started reading fics, because of course I have, Don't worry I'm trying to read older stuff so I won't be too spoiled (but I've kind of been spoiled for a lot of things just by Holmes fandom osmosis anyways.) I ended up reading a Mystrade fic, and god dammit it, it sold me on the pair. I haven't really fallen for side pairing in while, but I knew it would happen again at some point. Don't get me wrong, I ship Sherlock/John, I ship pretty much every iteration of Holmes/Watson, but that is not where interest is really pointing at the moment. So if you have any good Mystrade recs, especially if they take place after Reichenbach, and deal with the fall out of all that, send them my way please.

ups and downs (the usual suspects)
May. 18th, 2026 06:51 pmjavertI find that the real barrier to posting is thinking you need reasons to post. Like I need to have something to show or I need to have something structured to say. Then time passes and I feel like I've missed my chance and then it's too late and I feel bad and no posts happen. (This is, I suspect, what ended up getting in the way of finishing that Z-A review I wanted to post, which is actually still almost finished but at this point I'm like, is it even worth it to actually finish it??? I don't even really want to share it anymore. I've been in such a mood lately.)
Anyway.
First things first,3weeks4dreamwidth having officially ended, new prompts are closed for the Pokémon prompt meme. I'd still like to maybe make fills for it at some point though, which is still open until the month ends. Although whether I'll manage to or not is anyone's guess. MANNN I had not planned to end up sounding so sour when I started typing this post lol...
I got officially diagnosed with ADD a week-ish ago. Yay. Very "tell me something I don't know" I guess but hey at least now I can get meds and stuff without having to resort to taking my partner's. I also didn't get selected to go to the one con I love and miss tabling at that I haven't been able to table at for the last two years. So that kind of fucked me up in the last few days lol. Then on top of that my laptop's keyboard is all kinds of fucked; the letter L stopped working which is a pain but whatever except a bunch of other keys also stopped working including the main Enter key which is preeeeetty important. Honestly I feel like I'm going to have to admit to myself that I just need a new computer soon but man do I not want to spend money on that...
There are some good news though (other than the ADD diagnosis) and even though I was so frustrated and ready to give up yesterday I'm trying to cling to my previously acquired motivation to keep working on comics even if I can't table at cons. Whatever. I'll find out some way to sell that shit online or whatever. It just sucks that the year I finally got myself to feel genuinely motivated to work on comics is the year they won't take me for my favorite convention lol. BUT ENOUGH RUMINATING...
Existing online has been bittersweet lately, independently from the whole not being picked for the con thing. I just don't really want to be around other people and when I try to do it anyway everything feels fake and forced. I'll get over it but for now it is kind of a bummer. I'm debating just taking an extended social media hiatus or something. I even closed my Tumblr askbox (not that anybody cares, probably...)
I remembered that I was going to try to post more art here and specifically NSFW art, so here's a special NSFW sketch that I may or may not line & color at a latter date (I have so much other stuff I need to be working on... Maybe as a break in-between finishing up my comic for this one zine...) I'll put it under a details tag so as to not jumpscare those who are on this post's page and not just reading it off my journal's main page or their reading list.
Hope you enjoyed this treat as your reward for reading my (somehow way more negative than originally planned) ramblings HEH. Maybe I should just use this journal as my longform comic making diary or something...

BBC Sherlock
May. 17th, 2026 05:42 amkingstokenSo guys, I'm so confused. I started watching BBC Sherlock to distract myself from feeling sad, I just finished the first season, and surprisingly I'm loving it. Are they in any way accurate to Holmes canon? Not even in the slightest. But each episode is like a fun action-adventure film with a mystery at the heart of it. They are so enjoyable!
I really don't know what I expected, but through fandom osmosis I had somehow gotten the idea that this program was a drama. Like don't get me wrong, there is some drama, but it's not a "drama". It's so funny the idea you get in your head about what a show is like when you've never actually watched it.
Anyways, I kind of wish I'd tried it sooner, but it has come along at the right time for me now.

briaru is a brand new community dedicated to the universe that contains Off-Campus, Briar U, and Campus Diaries series by Elle Kennedy including Elle Kennedy's other Hockey Romance novels such as the HIM and WAGs series (just because!) along with the new Amazon Prime TV series based on the universe, Off Campus!Not sure how much of a fandom it'll get, probably won't be as big as Heated Rivalry of course, but I've been reading Elle Kennedy works off-an-on for years, and with the new TV series based of Off Campus (which I enjoyed a lot), I figured we could use a fandom space for it.
Tumblr is full of gifs, AO3 has some fics, and I haven't looked yet but assumedly there might be some fanvids for the show. If I find pictures/screenshots of the series, I definitely plan on making some icons, otherwise the above icon is the only one I got for the series.
Hope to see you there! I'm going to eventually post my feelings towards the show - soonish at least - and I plan on re-reading the series as well.
