PARTLY FINISHED FFFX 2026 POST
Aug. 5th, 2026 03:15 pmALERT: THIS IS A LETTER FOR A FIC EXCHANGE, AND IT IS NOT FINISHED YET. IT WILL BE FINISHED ~VERY SOON~!!! BUT PROBABLY NOT BEFORE THE AUGUST 8TH CUT-OFF. IF YOU ARE WRITING FOR ME, PLEASE FEAR NOT. I WILL NOT BETRAY U.
Took a year off but now I'm back at it again! Hello
fffx and FFFX participant! My online handle is Gargant, my AO3 is under the same name (
Gargant), and I'm excited to be back on this crazy rollercoaster with y'all!
Fiction or artwork are both delightful and super welcome! I tend to create prompts with an eye toward writing because writing is what I do, but if you want to take any of these ideas and take them down the comic route I'd be thrilled to see what you can do! LOVE AND ADMIRE UR WORKS, BRAVE AND POWERFUL ARTISTS
I'm a video game fan more than anything else, and as usual my requests reflect that. This year I've asked for: Tales of Graces, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Zestiria, Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Tekken, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV! One of these is not quite like the others, hahaha. If any fandom or pairing seems more favoured than another in my letter-writing, this is not intentional and shouldn't be taken as a indicator of preference. I've requested all of these because I'd be excited to receive them, so please follow your heart and create what speaks to you!
As is common in exchanges, some parts of this letter have been recycled from previous exchange letters. I am as excited as ever about those fandoms, I am only copy+pasting for time-saving purposes not interest level purposes!
I have one universal DNW, which I have outlined in every subsequent section of this letter and I'm going to mention here as well. The one and only thing I would like to avoid in anything created for me is any detailed rendition of a modern medical procedure. Particularly, things like cannula insertion and the administration of intravenous treatments are a personal nasty for me. Thank you for understanding.
With this all being said, here's a list of things I generally vibe with. Use this information however you see fit! ૮ฅ・ﻌ・აฅ

127 ☆ posting about writing fic rather than writing any actual fic
Aug. 5th, 2026 06:09 pmA while ago I was reading someone's post about writing fanfic by hand and it reminded me how I used to sneakily write fic during class or at work on a folded up sheet of notebook paper that I'd just shove in my pocket. Like I'd fold it into quarters and just write on the exposed sides and then refold it so two fresh sides were facing out, repeat until the paper was covered. Easy to hide under my notes for class or whatever. I'd have piles of folded papers with fic written out of order in quadrants that I'd need to type up.
At home if I wanted to write by hand I had a bunch of shitty dollar store notebooks I'd scribble in. Hannah Montana my strongest soldier, how I miss your encouraging multicolored covers cheering me on.
Anyway there was no point to this post I was just thinking about the good ol' days lol. What methods did y'all employ to write fic or do other creative endeavors when you technically shouldn't have been?

House/Life Woes
Jul. 31st, 2026 11:36 pmWe had a heavy rain this past week and the basement flooding/water came back to haunt me, I don't understand why it happened now and not the previous heavy storms we've had this year... also there is some sort of chimney leak coming through the ceiling/wall surrounding the chimney - although according to my dad, it's not the chimney? But like I got a new roof last year... I doubt it's not the chimney so I have to try and figure out how to pay for that and who/what can fix it. I also can't get up into my attic so I can't even check myself. I haven't officially called anyone for quotes or even to look at it, mostly because my dad thinks he or my brother will probably be able to fix the issue with chimney/roof thingy... which would be great if they can which could potentially save me money. I think my brother is coming tomorrow to finish the office floor, so I'm not sure if he or my dad will check it out tomorrow, because if he decides they can't, I'll call someone on Sunday or Monday.
This is making me hate rain, but I used to enjoy it - maybe not driving in it of course, but just like being in the house or work and it's raining? Yes I did. The best was being on a porch and watching it rain. I haven't really done that though in long time. And it's also making me hate basements.....
I should have spent time calling places today, I know, but I hate calling people and I woke up late because I was mostly tossing and turning with nightmares all night. I did drink a cup of tea before dealing with drying the basement when I woke up though - there still some wet spots, but I managed to use the fans and dried a few spots by rotating them at different sections throughout the day. The subpump I think managed to get all the water out from the basement door area (you know those storm doors that they always show in farm related films? that's kinda a separate area in my basement that floods a lot) or maybe it just finally slowed down/stopped? enough that I think I shut it off just before coming up tonight. I'm not looking forward to the Monday/Tuesday storms, I'm hoping they end up passing us or it's not enough to reactivate the water. For the water in the basement I definitely need to call in a professional for it - I just wish I knew which business my aunt used that last time - when they did it seemed to really work.
Anyway after that, I finally went outside to deal with the yard so that way in case my dad did show up tomorrow it wouldn't be in the way of the chimney/roof thingy, but I should have drank water or ate something because of the heat or being out in the sun it felt like I was either going to throw up or pass out after a while. I should have maybe worn my hat as well, maybe I'd have lasted longer... I got a lot accomplished before I couldn't do anymore and went inside for water and a shower but also didn't finish. I have no idea what time it was when I went out nor what time I came in, but I feel like maybe it was an hour or two? Maybe three? I should have looked at the clock. After the shower I just laid on my bed, and I think I may have slept for a bit... I don't remember when Gabby (my cat) joined me on the bed, but when I woke up again she was with me. And I kind of just laid there for a bit before I managed to convince my body to get food. The weird thing is I wasn't hungry at all, even as I ate. Nor am I really now. Just thirsty. I stayed on the couch while I ate and when Xena (my other cat) cuddled up to me I played Pokémon Violet until my switch battery died.
My sister went into the ER a week or two back - mostly found that out via my mom from my niece who had apparently called/texted my mother about her going to the ER for a "headache".... in completely unexpectedly my mother had not freaked out at the time, she went back to bed after she informed me or whatever. I saw the message when I got to work and I'm the one that freaked the fuck out, asking why she'd go to the ER for a headache. So my mom called my brother-in-law to get an update - apparently she had a kidney stone (my niece or my mom just misunderstood what was happening), and she got it lasered this past Monday. She was in pain, but she seems to be fine now thankfully.
I also managed to drop one of those battery-powered drills on my left foot and it seems like my pinky-toe took the brunt of the impact - it was all black & blue and was swollen (honestly still a bit swollen). It's only painful when I'm in sneakers or when I bump my toe.
So I've mostly been trying deal with the above anxiety pit - so I haven't been sleeping very well, which apparently affected my attitude at full-time job, so a co-worker of mine who had never really had deal with the more depressed version of myself was like "you changed" and "I'm worried about you" (he didn't know me prior to last June). I don't think my attitude has changed that much within the last month, other yes I do feel more depressed and short-fused a bit, but than again this whole past year had me less depressed than I have been in years so maybe I'm just back to my normal? And he just has to get used to it. I don't know. My carpel tunnel is acting up as well, which is not helping, because my arms hurt or ache, and it's making me think I'll probably have to get that surgery... Plus my period seems to come with really bad cramps anymore which sucks.
In other news, I got a small raise from retail job, it was like a 20/25/50 cents raise, so not much, but it's appreciated. And because of my full time job we got two free extra days of this year, and I picked yesterday and today. Mostly so I could have a long weekend, and because I could go see Supergirl & Spider-Man yesterday. Which I did because yay me having giftcards/points to use. I recommend both movies. I really enjoyed both of them. Right now I have a headache again (stress? dehydration? fuck knows) otherwise I'd probably go into details on what I loved/liked/etc. but I've been wanting to write for a while and figured I'd give you guys some personal update.
Maybe I should have spent the day at my friends' house or inside painting the office room, which I've said I've wanted/will be doing for weeks now but still haven't. I don't know, maybe tomorrow? Maybe I wouldn't feel as meh as I do now.
I'm going to bed again, I think.

Fannish July
Jul. 31st, 2026 11:11 pmMovies
The last few weeks of our Disney+ subscription were well used. We watched two more movies:
Zootopia 2 was brilliant! It starts out at breakneck pace, both plot-wise and joke-wise, and never lets up until the end. The only thing I didn't like was how the major confrontation was cut like a fanvid, the music being more important than the action. It definitely removed me from what was happening, which cannot be the goal of a climax... So that was strange, but it's my only complaint. Overall, I really loved the movie. It has a good message (just like the first one, very needed these days), and the friendship between the main characters was wonderful as always.
I also really loved The Emperor's New Groove! Sweet characters, very very fun villains, and a heartwarming story that retained enough levity that it didn't feel like a sledgehammer. Good! Glad we watched it!
TV finished

2-hour livestram of Wu Lei and Huang Bo cycling in Hainan, promoting The Decisive Moment
I was still following the press junket for Wu Lei's new movie which
I also found an interview about The Decisive Moment with some other people - not the actors, but one of the producers and some "unrelated" industry people, one of them a writer, the other one I'm not sure. But they had interesting things to say about the movie compared to the actor interviews, which are starting to get repetitive (but I'll watch Wu Lei say the same thing thrice without getting bored, lalala). unsubbed youtube link.
Oh, and I watched the livestream of the Beijing humanoid half marathon (bilibili link with simultaneous translation), which took place in April. It was a "normal" half marathon, plus a parallel contest for 124 humanoid robots. It's rtmi and I found it quite interesting.
TV new (ongoing)

It's a 2025 cdrama about two people who used to be highschool sweethearts, played by Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan. They're now a few years older and have to share an apartment. The first episode impressed me *a lot*, with wonderful characters with very different family lives, large trauma, and not-too-luxurious living conditions. Unfortunately, it declined quickly after that and eps 4-7 were a real slog. The ML never tells the FL the truth, trying to care for her with actions while pretending that's not what he's doing, and at the same time being jealous and possessive and obstinate about it, and I just want to strangle him the whole time. I'm sure there's a reason he's possessive and not communicating (I know the FL has relatively good reason to be closed off and being in constant flight mode -> trauma), but so far it hasn't been revealed how much of that he understands and why he acts the way he does and ugh. I had hoped it would be better than Love Has Fireworks, because it started out so well, but... oi. I still really love the flashbacks and the parts that are serious: the parts about her trauma and his careful attempts at helping her, the parts where it's just the two of them. I also like the scenes about her and her family, and her and her best friend. I like the slow direction and the music. But I hate the parts that are supposed to be funny, where his lies blow up (as if that wouldn't make her run), and where all their friends are constantly inquiring into each other's love lives. And let's not mention the second couple, which has been non-stop embarrassment squick so far. But, overall, the show gives me enough serious moments to not drop it yet. Lets see if that continues.
Love Has Fireworks, Love Beyond The Grave, Our Times, Andor
TV continued
Love Has Fireworks is slowly getting better (now on ep 8). I'm starting to like the ML a little more. He's still a brat, but I liked the scenes with his father a lot, and he's starting to really support the FL instead of just riling her up.

Love Beyond the Grave - Dilraba being beautiful and ethereal
I'm still really enjoying Love Beyond the Grave (now on 18/40), although it's very clear that all the plot is purely driven by romance. Nobody ever has anything else on their mind but who the Ghost Queen loves, and how to beat the competition. It's ridiculously unrealistic, but I can't help it, I like the ML constantly doing silly things to get to know her better and prove his love - and doing it in a quirky way that she actually understands. Also, the costumes are extremely pretty (so much gold thread, so unusual in a fractal way), and the CGI scenery is, too. They make up for boring direction with all the bling in other aspects. :D There were no sense exchanges at all in the latest eps, instead we're being shown the underworld, its hierarchies, and the Ghost Ruler's past. It turns out she's the child of the previous ruler and a human woman - hmmmm I'm not sure I like this, it makes everything feel like the typical Chinese ruling dynasty setup, plus now her falling in love with a human is almost a family obligation. It hasn't dampened my enjoyment of it yet.

Our Times - the slash potential is high
Since none of the other shows really made me happy, I finally returned to Our Times, the 80s retro thing with Wu Lei and Hou Minghao, and I'm still enjoying the hell out of that! I'm now on ep9, and there are tiny train ticket stubs, handwritten letters with stamps, long crowded overnight train rides, long-distance landline phonecalls. And terrible wardrobe! (And - so far very cute and innocent - romance.) I love it. (Plus, the two male leads are very slashable - helped by the fact that Wu Lei and Hou Minghao are friends IRL. I suspect I will fall victim to that at some point.)
TV (dropped)
I tried half an episode of Andor, but it made me nauseous so I had to stop. I did like the acting of the main character. Very good indeed. I hated the robot. I liked the worldbuilding from the little I saw of it. It felt like a very interesting setting, but I'm not willing to sit through it if i have to battle nausea the whole time.
Rewatches/Watchalongs
One of my two Nothing But You watchalongs has finished! *sob* We're probably going to pick up Murderbot again next. We'd watched the first two eps before embarking on 38 eps of cdrama together. :) The other watchalong is on 16/38, and the third couple has shown up, which she likes! \o/ So this is going well.

vriddy's great reminder! Community Thursday challenge: every Thursday, try to make an effort to engage with a community on Dreamwidth, whether that's posting, commenting, promoting, etc.
Over the last week...
Committed to setting up weekly round-up posts for
naarmamo, a month in August of posting new art each day. (Though in my case, likely to be more like each week, or maybe progress each day, lol!) Also likely to set up the end-of-August "post a conglomerate of your work this month to make a badge for participation")
Commented on
everykindofcraft posts, with some extremely talented bookbinders and jewelry makers this week!
Commented on
comicbook_icons as it's nice to see some 'best off' thumbnail-sized images of folks' current favs.
Commented on
dreamwidthlayouts where an extremely talented community member posted a super handy GUI for the otherwise basic Tabula Rasa journal style to help juj that style up.
Spruced up my friends-locked DWRP community sandbox
afterthejump, as the next time I get a burst of inspiration I want to make some prompts and organize some of my character journals. I doubt I'll get into a full roleplay game any time soon, but every so often the bug to write bites and this time it leant towards wishing for RP.
